RNID Public Transport Accessibility Survey - funded by the Motability Foundation

This is the first ever research to focus on the experiences of people who are deaf or have hearing loss when using public transport in the UK. We would like to invite you to take part in our survey and tell us about your experiences of using public transport.

Who are we? RNID is the national charity supporting the more than 18 million adults in the UK who are deaf, have hearing loss, or tinnitus. We work to end the discrimination faced by our communities, help people hear better now, and fund world-class research to restore hearing and silence tinnitus.

Why should I do this survey? This survey, which has been developed alongside an advisory panel of people who are deaf or have hearing loss, is a crucial opportunity to share your experiences of using public transport.

By taking part, you’ll be contributing to one of the most comprehensive pieces of evidence ever gathered on the accessibility of public transport for people who are deaf or have hearing loss in the UK.

Your insights will directly inform RNID’s work with transport providers, policymakers and technology companies. With your help, we can push for meaningful change to public transport in the UK.

Who can take part? If you are deaf or have hearing loss, or if you are a carer or travel companion supporting someone who is deaf or has hearing loss, you can take part in the survey.

How long will it take? The survey should take you around 15-20 minutes to complete and that’s because we are gathering the information we need to build the strongest possible case for improving public transport. Every answer you share helps us better understand the barriers people face and the solutions that would make the biggest difference.

As a thank you for taking part, you can enter a prize draw to win a £100 voucher at the end of the survey.

Is the survey translated into British Sign Language? Yes, every question is translated into British Sign Language. You also have the option of responding to open-ended questions in BSL.

When will the survey close? The survey will close on Monday 13 April.

How will my data be collected? RNID will collect data through Forsta Surveys. Any personal information you share will be kept confidential.

How will my data be used? Your data will be used to support our campaigning and policy work to improve how public transport meets the needs of our communities. If you choose to provide your personal details and contact information this will only be used to contact you as you have agreed.

How will my data be stored? Your data will be stored securely in our internal SharePoint environment for 10 years before being deleted. Only relevant project team members will have access to this data. You can read more about how we process and store your data in RNID’s Social Research Privacy Notice.

Do I have to take part? Your participation is entirely voluntary. You control what information you choose to share. You may choose not to answer any questions or to stop participating at any time. If you stop part-way through the survey, your data will be excluded from our analysis. If you change your mind about participating after completing the survey, we can remove your data up to 15th April 2026 if you have provided your name and contact details within the survey. If you took part anonymously, we will not be able to remove your data.

Any questions? Please contact us at panel@rnid.org.uk if you have any questions.

By clicking 'Continue' you agree that you have read the information provided, have had the opportunity to ask questions, and wish to take part in this survey.
